The Town of Southbridge Sewer department is currently discharging partially treated wastewater into the Quinebaug River Via Outfall 001. This discharge is due to heavy rain event sustained on 7/16/2023. To limit the impact to the Quinebaug river and wastewater process, the air for our aeration tanks is offline.
The discharge started 12:05 PM on 7/16/2023, and is currently still ongoing. Current flow rate of discharge is 10.26 MGD; design flow is 3.77MGD.
Please Avoid contact with The Quinebaug River, and Bodies of water to the East "Downstream" for 48 hours after the discharge or overflow ceases due to increased health risks from bacteria and other pollutants.
